Youth culture meeting between Korup School and QingYing School in China
During a period of half a year - from January to the summer holidays - students from two 6th classes at Korup School and Qingying School in Changzhou, approx. 160 km from Shanghai, have communicated via zoom. This happened in the project "Inspire, Share, Learn" (ISL) initiated by Learn For Life.
The aim is to share experiences and inspire
During the six months, the students have exchanged short videos about e.g. 'my home', sports and other leisure interests. They were 'meeting' with each other about once a month on zoom and talked about everyday life, traditions (Spring Festival in China and Easter in Denmark), music. They have sung, made an online performance and shown videos and photos of their school and told about summer holiday plans. Inspire-Share-Learn (ISL) is a project where we create the opportunity to meet online across cultural and national borders with the aim of mutually inspiring, and sharing experiences, opinions and dreams, thus learning from and about each other.
Many similarities
Feedback shows that the young people experience big differences, but also lots of similarities. They were amused that what they themselves think is ordinary everyday is almost exotic in the eyes of others. A side benefit is that they not only learn about another culture, but also become more aware of their own.
LearnForLife.dk would like to thank Korup Skole's two cool 6th graders as well as their English teachers for their positive and enriching commitment to the project.
